[Lessons Learnt] Sales and Networking

In the second part of our Lessons Learnt series, I’m sharing three essential tips on Sales and Networking, gained from my 37 years of experience in the industry.

Firstly, it’s crucial to recognise that “Everybody needs to work on their Sales Skills.” Most business owners and salespeople lack sales training, have poor sales processes, or do not apply the sales training they’ve received. As a result, they get poor results and accept mediocrity. However, by investing in training and implementing a good sales process, it’s possible to increase your closing rate from 20% to 90% of qualified leads, as I did in my business over the last three decades.

The second sales tip is “Don’t write proposals.” Instead, have a conversation with your prospects, ask for the business, and talk about the money to overcome objections effectively.

And lastly, my advice is to “Pick a networking group and infiltrate it.” Instead of attending various networking groups, find one that fits your business and target market. Once you identify such a group, get involved, and ask if you can take a position on a working committee. By doing so, you become part of the inner circle, build deeper relationships, and grow your business.

In summary, my top 3 sales and networking tips are to focus on enhancing your sales skills, to have smart discussions instead of writing proposals, and to a suitable networking group and get involved in it.
